Structures and Functions
of the Skeletal System
By Jonathan Abraham
Bones are useful in many ways. One way is how they are arranged.
The skeleton is made of 205 or 206 bones when fully grown. While your heart is pumping blood flows though your bones making it soft. Your bones always support your body, shape it, protect your organs, stores minerals, makes red and white blood cells and helps move , makes red and white blood cells and helps move you. The skull has 30 bones. There are 8 cranium bones 2 Parietal, 1 Frontal, 1 Occipital, 2 Temporal, a Sphenoid and an Ethmoid. The 22 facial bones are 1 Mandible, 1 Nasal, 2 Maxilla, 2 Zigomatic, 2 Turbinates, 2 Lacrimal, 2 Palatine, 2 Hyoid, 2 Anvil, 2 Hammer and 2 Stirrup.
The bones in your main body protect many important organs. This is the rib cage. It includes 12 ribs, the vertebrae column and the sternum. The spine holds the body up. It has 24 vertebrae. 7 cervical, 12 thoracic and 5 lumbar vertebrae along with sacrum and coccyx make the spine. The atlas holds up the head but the axis allows it to turn. The arm is made of the Humerus, Radius, carpal, metacarpal and the fingers. The Humerus’ parts are the head, Diaphysis and the lesser and greater tubercle. The Ulna and Radius connect to the Humerus and make most of the arm. The carpal, metacarpal and fingers make the hand. The leg is made of the Illium, Ischium, Femur, Tibia, Fibula and the patella. The Femur is made of the neck, lesser and greater torchanter and the body. The Femur is the largest bone in the body
Bones are interesting for one reason and that is how they are structured.
